Ramp

rampSeventh-grade students took math outdoors for their latest project on ratios and real-life design. Their challenge? To find a spot on campus that could use a ramp and use their math skills to make it happen!RampRampRampWorking in groups, students measured the rise (height) of the area and used ratios to determine the ideal ramp length that would make it both functional and safe. After calculating, they designed their ramps—either by drawing them or writing detailed descriptions. Each design included measurements for every section and the overall ramp length, showing how math connects directly to accessibility and inclusion.RampRampRampThis hands-on activity didn’t just test their math skills—it helped students understand how ratios play an important role in creating spaces everyone can use.
