White River School District's Terracycle Progress!

White River School District is part of Terracycle!  Empty containers are being brought to school by students to be sent in for upcycling!  These are containers that can not be normally recycled, so they are sent in instead to be turned into new products!  For more information on the process please visit  http://www.terracycle.net  If you would like to help support the project and the school please sign up at the website and select the White River Elementary School as your charity when you send in items!

This is a rotating basis project!   for the 2012 - 2013 term the White River High School will receive the benefits of our efforts!
This will rotate through the other schools for each school term!
Please sign up, select the white river school district (or elementary) as your charity to support, and send your items in to Terracycle!

If you have any questions on this project please contact your classroom teacher or Johnny Kruse at the school district   johnny.kruse @  k12.sd.us

TerraCycle is a private US small business headquartered in New Jersey which specializes in making consumer products from pre and post consumer materials.  It began with the production of fertilizer made from worm waste products and was packaged in reused containers for sale.  The company diversified into upcycling other materials in 2007 and began to produce items such as pencil cases and backpacks from Capri Sun drink pouches.  It also has branched out to create messenger bags, binders, notebooks, tote bags and much more as a result of it's mission to upcycle as much as it can and help keep the earth green.  The company was founded in 2001 by two freshmen at Princeton University as a result of a submission for a business plan contest and by 2002 the company was well on it's way with the fertilizer business.  It has been named one of the 100 most innovative companies by Red Herring Magazine and has received the Environmental Stewardship Award from Home Depot Canada.  As of Fall 2011 TeraCycle accepts materials in approximately 40 specialized categories from a large number of participating locations and all money sent out in exchange for the collections is paid to schools and non-profits.  They pay on average .02 per item ranging up to .25 for cellphones and inkjet cartridges.
