Distance Education
VTEL Lessons
Teachers and Administrators at White River High School will work to establish learning communities in the region and in the state to design, develop, implement, and evaluate high quality instruction via the Digital Dakota Network, pairing teachers at different locations to team teach via VTEL video conferencing tools.
Through a collaborative learning project, students and staff alike will benefit, building an understanding of instructional strategies that effectively utilize the Digital Dakota Network (DDN). Teachers will understand the technological influences on instructional design as well as the systems and complexities of various learning relationships: instructor-student, student-technology, student-student, and student-content. An understanding of the instructional gap between what is current classroom practice and what is needed to assure student interaction and participation in a distance environment will be addressed.
Incorporation of the South Dakota Content Standards as well as professional organizational content standards and district curriculum objectives is essential in planning and implementation of tele-lessons. The learning community will integrate multimedia and visual tools, including video, presentation graphics, and the internet into the educational environment. Assessment for improved student growth and achievement is integral to the formulation and implementation of distance learning projects.
Instructors will have an overall understanding of the capabilities and limitations of the technological tools available to them and to their students.
